About the Role

The Licensed Athletic Trainer (L/ATC) is responsible for attending all sports activities as assigned, assisting team physicians, maintaining written records on all athletes, and consulting with team physicians and coaches regarding injured athletes' status.

Responsibilities

  • Attend athletic events as assigned and assist team physicians when in attendance.
  • Maintain communication with coaching staff regarding the status of injured players and schedule changes.
  • Record progress on injured athletes using established forms.
  • Refer athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Perform treatments as ordered by the physician.
  • Maintain proper equipment and supplies for coverage of athletic events.
  • Encourage and maintain a positive attitude toward all athletes and staff.
  • Attend and participate in department/clinic in-services.
  • Submit written records of incidents or accidents involving self, patient/athlete, or other employees to the Sports Medicine Coordinator immediately.
  • Participate as a member of the healthcare team, including transporting patients, maintaining records, equipment, and supplies.
  • Observe and record patient condition, reactions, and responses; report appropriate information to the physician or clinical director.
  • Accept responsibility for the patient's personal care and environment throughout treatment.
  • Follow established procedures and safety precautions for therapeutic modalities such as heat, cold, light, water, sound, electricity, and massage.
  • Carry out physician-prescribed rehabilitation protocols.
  • Use rehabilitation equipment competently after receiving adequate instruction and demonstrating understanding.
  • Care for braces, prostheses, bandages, and other assistive devices.
  • Assist the team physician during assessment, stabilization, and transport of injured athletes.
  • Inform immediate supervisor of pertinent information relative to Sports Medicine.
  • Comply with procedures for maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Sports Medicine Coordinator and/or Clinical Director.
  • Participate in continuing education through conferences and in-service programs.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved college/university.
  • Eligible/Certified through the National Athletic Trainers Association/BOC.
  • Eligible/Licensed through the Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, turn, bend, lift, climb, and use a great majority of physical motion in daily activities.
  • Stand for extended periods and walk extensively without experiencing extreme fatigue.
  • Lift and carry equipment, supplies, and materials up to 50 lbs. independently; over 50 lbs. with assistance or mechanical devices.
  • Operate electrical equipment and handle category I exposure to infectious materials.
  • Visual acuity to perceive reactions to injury and/or treatment.

Supervisor: Sports Medicine Coordinator and Clinical Director.
