License Inspector
Anne Arundel County Government is hiring for a full-time permanent, safety-sensitive License Inspector position in the Office of Inspections and Permits.
About the role
Employees in this class are responsible for inspecting, issuing, and enforcing compliance with local laws, codes, and regulations governing County license requirements. Work involves considerable contact with contractors, owners, and the public on the interpretation of laws and regulations, and the investigation of complaints. The role is performed under general supervision and may involve exposure to various weather conditions, antagonistic persons, and work sites that are dirty, noisy, or dusty.
Responsibilities
- Conducts physical inspections of mobile homes, taxis, tow trucks, amusements, vendors, trade contractors, unattended donation boxes, licensed businesses, and other assigned sites.
- Receives license applications, supporting documentation, and monetary payments for license processing.
- Investigates complaints and problems, issues violations following County laws and regulations when necessary.
- Provides customer service and assists the public.
- Reviews and investigates license applications, follows up with applicants to complete applications.
- Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
- Performs data entry, filing, and related administrative tasks.
- Stands and drives for long periods of time; performs work in both office and field settings.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Two or more years of experience in governmental licensing or regulatory authority.
- Valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
- Ability to stand and drive for long periods of time.
- Ability to enforce regulations and use a computer for tracking licensing activities and mapping applications (e.g., Geocortex, County View).
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to safely operate a county vehicle.
Skills
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing licensing in Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland.
- Knowledge of County geography and ability to use maps.
- Experience with data entry and administrative tasks (preferred).
- Experience prioritizing and performing multiple tasks (preferred).
- Experience performing inspections for adherence to policies, rules, and regulations (preferred).
