Job Duties
- Learns and maintains a working knowledge of the library's integrated library system (ILS) and various library related software, applications and their processes.
- Processes library material through the library's procedure system in order to make them available for patrons, i.e. applying book jackets, adhering barcodes, printing and applying spine labels, etc.
- Affixes and removes library materials from the library's automated system.
- Prepares library materials for the book sale.
- Sorts and boxes library materials; lifts and moves heavy boxes.
- Sorts and distributes incoming mail, freight, and donations.
- Processes periodicals and newspapers, logging them upon arrival.
- Arranges and files periodicals and newspapers in the display areas of the library.
- Repairs damaged library materials, i.e. repairing broken hinges, replacing media albums, etc.
- Participates and attends staff meetings, trainings, daily shows, programs, and other projects of the library as required and/or assigned.
- Assists patrons and fellow employees in a courteous and respectful manner; refers patrons and fellow employees to appropriate personnel.
- Maintains confidentiality and privacy of patron records and work-related issues.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public on all age levels and cultural backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of basic personal computer operations; with applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and/or Google Docs, Google Sheets, Email and the Internet.
- Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to successfully perform routine duties as assigned with minimal supervision.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize, complete assignments in a timely manner, and meet quality standards.
- Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends for special library events.
- Ability to learn to use the tools and equipment listed, including the library's online catalog and automation system and use them effectively to perform assigned duties.
