Library Customer Assistant (On-Call)

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Part‑time, on‑call position
One four‑hour shift per two‑week pay period
Additional shifts may be called in as needed, including weekday, weekend, and evening shifts
Additional hours are not guaranteed
Applicants must be available on short notice

High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to reach, push, pull, squat, and move repetitively to retrieve and shelve items (with or without a library cart)
Capability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods (two to four hours)
Ability to carry a reasonable selection of materials and lift/carry up to 50 lb
Must indicate understanding of the on‑call nature of the position and include availability in the cover letter

Provide reference and reader’s advisor services; instruct patrons in using library resources (databases, reference materials, catalogs, computers, makerspace equipment, interlibrary loan system)
Participate in material circulation procedures and promote library use
Perform other duties as assigned
May help create, organize, market, and deliver public programming related to collections or personal interest
May assist with materials processing, repair, discarding, and catalog record maintenance
Organize shelving carts and shelve materials
Manage the library’s lost & found

Effective oral, written, and listening communication; public speaking, small‑group instruction, counseling, and direction
Basic technology skills: Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Internet searching, and resource evaluation
Ability to receive, understand, interpret, and carry out library policies and procedures
Commitment to ongoing intellectual effort to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of library resources, learning, literature, and information resources
