Library Assistant
About the role
The Library Assistant supports the preservation and accessibility of state geological records in a public library setting. This position involves sorting, inventorying, and integrating collections, as well as data entry, scanning, and assisting the public or internal staff.
Work hours must be completed on-site between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling available. The start date may be adjusted to accommodate the selected candidate's availability. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. at the time of appointment; sponsorship is not available.
Responsibilities
- Enter data and scan records, proof data and scans (60%).
- Inventory, manually move, sort, and organize collections including wireline logs, scout cards, completion reports, geologist reports, and DTS (20%).
- Recycle or integrate donations into the permanent collection at the supervisor’s discretion (10%).
- Provide assistance to the public and internal staff (5%).
- Perform other duties as assigned (5%).
Requirements
- Ability to push rolling bookcases in confined areas, climb step ladders, and lift 15–20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in storage areas with old documents that may be dusty, musty, or moldy, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- High school diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of library or related experience.
- Experience organizing, categorizing, and shelving records.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework, experience, or demonstrated interest in geology, geography, or related earth science disciplines.
- Proficiency in research skills, including database searching and web-based research.
- Knowledge of or experience with records filed by legal land description (section, township, range).
- Experience scanning documents, books, or other records.
- Experience with data entry.
Pay
Advertised salary range: $37,440 – $45,760, depending on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
On-site, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexible scheduling within these hours. Anticipated start date: Monday, September 28, 2026.
