About the role

The Part-time-Library Assistant-Adult position at Fort Bend County is available at the George Memorial Branch. This role assists the full-time staff at the library's reference desks, helps patrons with computers, and performs various other tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide answers to reference questions, referring complex or difficult questions to the full-time staff.
  • Aid patrons in using public computers for accessing the public catalog, locating circulation accounts, and using the Internet and databases.
  • Assist in other areas of the library, such as programming for adults, at the circulation desk, or at other reference desks.
  • Complete assigned shelf-reading duties, keeping the shelves organized.
  • Perform book and AV processing or other duties as assigned.
  • Attend reference training and other educational programs on a continuing basis.
  • Stay updated on the library’s information resources by studying databases, online resources, and reference-book collections.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and 48 credit hours of college, with relevant experience working with adults in groups preferred.
  • Typing and keyboarding skills.
  • Computer skills involving internet and database searching.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact with staff and the public.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift library materials up to 25 pounds.
