About the role

The purpose of this classification is to provide library services involving development and maintenance of library programs, curricula, collections, advanced library services and to assist in managing branch activities.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff;
• Develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control;
• Counsels or disciplines as appropriate;
• Trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures;
• Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work;
• Maintains and manages the property including the equipment, building, parking lot and surrounding property;
• Provides customer service to library patrons and the public;
• Monitors usage of library computers;
• Processes inter-library loan requests from patrons and other libraries;
• Selects, retains, and develops library collections;
• Performs all duties of subordinate Library personnel as needed;
• Provides circulation services to patrons including checking in/out materials and registering new patrons;
• Repairs/mends damaged books and materials;
• Restocks supplies;
• Performs general tasks related to operation and upkeep of the Library.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited graduate school and two years of experience in professional library work required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license;
• Must possess and maintain licensure from the Georgia State Board for the Certification of Librarians within six months of employment in this classification.
