About the role
The Public Library of Brookline is seeking an Adult Services Reference Librarian to drive the library’s adult programming initiative. This role is not about maintaining existing programs but about dreaming up, building, and delivering experiences that truly transform how residents engage with the library and each other.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead a variety of programs including hands-on workshops, creative classes, community events, and outreach
- Perform the full range of reference librarian duties such as collection development, readers advisory, research support, and technology assistance
- Build relationships with patrons and foster a sense of trust and familiarity
- Think creatively about community engagement and connection, not just logistical programming
- Forge partnerships, reach new audiences, and find innovative ways to bring meaningful experiences to adults of all ages
Requirements
- Masters of Library and Information Science degree required
- Two to three years of experience in library operations required, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Desirable language skills in Spanish, Chinese, or Russian
