About the Role

The Librarian I (Web Services) designs and maintains library websites and web-based applications, focusing on content and user interface accessibility and usability. They assist library staff with creating accessible online content, including instruction and marketing materials, and collaborate with Systems staff to evaluate and enhance the library online catalog and other discovery interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains accessible public and staff websites using local files, scripts, and third-party content management systems.
  • Trains and assists library staff with development and maintenance of web content.
  • Consults with staff on special projects as requested.
  • Works with Library Special Collections to develop web exhibits and collaborates with Library Systems and TCU IT staff to enhance user interfaces for specialized web applications.
  • Reviews content on library public and staff websites for currency; consults with staff and revises content as needed.
  • Evaluates library online interfaces for usability and WCAG accessibility standards compliance.
  • Uses analytics reports and other tools to evaluate and report on website usage.
  • Monitors developments in the field through professional organizations and training; keeps staff informed of technology issues and suggests service enhancements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, MIS (Management Information Systems), or a closely related field, or an ALA-accredited Master’s in Library Science, and 0–1 year of related experience.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a closely related field, and 4–5 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a library environment.
  • Experience supporting technology in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with open-source software development and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using web user interface frameworks such as Bootstrap.
  • Experience using SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience managing and configuring Windows IIS web servers.

Skills

  • Proficiency in web development and content management systems.
  • Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and usability best practices.
  • Ability to train and assist staff with web content creation.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools for evaluating website usage.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms, and printed materials.
  • Able to speak clearly in conversation and general communication.
  • Hearing ability for verbal communication via telephone and face-to-face interactions.
  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, reaching, and flexibility for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, and prolonged sitting.
  • Ability to lift and move objects and equipment up to 10 lbs.

Work Environment

  • Work is indoors, sedentary, and subject to schedule changes or variable hours.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
  • This is an on-campus, in-person position.
