Level Design Artist

About the role
We are looking for a Level Design Artist to create Hidden Object scenes for a brand new game at the Jam City Narrative Game division. You will contribute to the game team by assembling visually stunning levels that adhere to the best game design principles, creating engaging, story-filled puzzles. You are equally an artist and a designer, with the ability to touch every aspect of the level pipeline.
To be considered, you must provide a link to an online portfolio, website, or PDF showcasing recent artwork upon application. This is an on-site role requiring in-office work 5 days a week.
Responsibilities
- Assemble captivating levels using existing assets.
- Collaborate with designers and artists to ensure optimal quality.
- Light 3D scenes optimized for mobile devices.
- Edit or create high-quality and optimized 3D environments and props.
- Attend level preproduction meetings and propose environment, prop, camera, and lighting ideas that consider design, art, and narrative needs.
- Work with your Art Lead and Art Director in establishing and maintaining the look of the project.
- Present your work to the Design and Narrative leads and address any notes or changes of direction.
- Playtest other people’s levels and provide feedback to ensure a cohesive gameplay experience.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve visual issues with in-game environment assets and character-environment interaction.
- Identify and develop pipeline advantages, ensuring assets are created in the most efficient way possible.
- Interface with Lead Artist, Art Director, Producers, and other project leads on various issues and deadlines.
- Identify and solve aesthetic and technical issues in the development process.
Requirements
- Perfect understanding of composition, color, value, and form as it relates to both classic art and gameplay visuals.
- 3+ years of level design experience.
- 3+ years of 3D game experience, with Hidden Object Game experience preferred.
- Complete mastery of Unity Engine.
- Experience working on at least one 3D game from conception to completion.
- Great knowledge of Maya and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Rendering and real-time shader development awareness.
- Experience with PBR materials.
- Understanding of the 3D pipeline and process as it relates to game development, with experience partnering with other disciplines such as engineering and design.
- Affinity for problem-solving and self-reliance.
- Art Degree or equivalent working experience.
- Excellent grasp of the English language.
Nice to Have
- Strong 2D concept and illustration skills.
- Shader creation experience in any shader graph tool.
- Knowledge of Substance Painter.

Pay
Starting pay for this full-time position ranges from $90,000 to $110,000 per year, depending on education, training, experience, certifications, location, business needs, or market demands. The range may be modified in the future. In addition to salary, Jam City provides a variety of benefits, including annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
