About the role
Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Level 3 NICU Registered Nurse to join our night shift team!
Responsibilities
- Provide care for infants immediately after birth.
- Oversee the care of infant patients in the NICU.
- Troubleshoot and maintain NICU equipment.
- Consult with parents/guardians on aftercare and long-term health management for infants.
- Educate new parents on basic infant care including breastfeeding, hygiene and safety.
- Perform tests ordered by the neonatologist or nurse practitioner and evaluate the result.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school or nursing.
- Current valid RN license with the state of Idaho.
- Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated.
- Previous NICU experience preferred.
- Able to use a variety of medical devices including, but not limited to: I.V. pumps, radiant warmers, Neonatal monitoring devices, Newborn medication administration, and respiratory equipment.
- Able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Skills
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Ability to perform vital signs, initial admission, head-to-toe assessments on preterm, term, and post-term sick infants and post-partum adults.
- Able to offer family centered care for a postpartum mother and baby on the mother baby unit.
- Able to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines.
- Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by each patient group.
- Communicates appropriately, clearly, and respectfully to other charge nurses, coworkers, supervisor, and physicians.
- Able to operate a variety of equipment related to infant support and care in the NICU.
- Able to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan on an ongoing basis.
- Able to manage and operate NICU equipment safely and correctly.
- Able to perform all newborn screening, blood sampling, and discharge procedures.
- Able to perform all discharge teaching, follow up instruction to parents in detail according to policy and procedure.
- Able to implement consultations and referrals as needed.
- Able to use Healthstream and complete assigned modules.
- Able to access the Policy and Procedure Manual on the hospital intranet.
- Able to communicate effectively in English. Bilingual skills are beneficial.
