About the role

This appointment is for the Fall term, 2026 on a monthly basis. The Lecturer appointed to this position is expected to teach the didactic section(s) of the N236 Microbiology course, which include, but are not limited to:

• Weekly lectures
• Weekly office hours and/or student meetings
• Assessment development
• Evaluation of student performance
• Grading all assignments and computing final grades in a timely fashion

This position includes classroom and/or clinical teaching that may take place in a hospital or clinic setting and may include other on-site work hours, even if the University and/or the School of Nursing is taking part in remote work/alternative teaching.

Responsibilities

The course will primarily focus on the concepts of general microbiology essential to maintaining environments free of contamination and protecting both patients and providers from common infectious diseases. Key topics include:

• Major bacterial, fungal, viral, and parasitic infections affecting humans locally and globally
• Basic epidemiological principles and procedures for surveillance and investigation of health-related states or events pertaining to infectious diseases, including immunizations
• Relationships among disease, communities, societies, and culture, including global perspectives
• Healthcare-associated infections and their prevention

Requirements

• A master's degree is required
• Preference will be given to applicants with didactic teaching experience and content expertise in microbiology
• Must be in compliance with all health requirements, including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, and policies/procedures for assigned classroom(s) and/or clinical site(s) prior to the start date
• Copy of your highest nursing diploma
• Copy of your nursing license in the State of Michigan (required for this position)
• Copy of certifications
• Evidence of didactic and clinical teaching experience (teaching statement)
• Three (3) letters of professional recommendation from master's prepared or higher individuals; on letterhead/signed and/or sent from a professional organization email
