Lemonweir Elementary: School Counselor

About the role

The Tomah Area School District is seeking an innovative Elementary School Counselor to work collaboratively with colleagues, including four other elementary counselors, develop positive relationships with students and parents, and build partnerships within the community. The School Counselor provides a wide range of services and support to students in grades 4K-5.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in resolving personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with academic achievement, adjustment to school, and capacity to enjoy educational benefits.
• Effectively work with school officials, other Pupil Services staff, parents, and community agencies to provide services for children with social/emotional problems.
• Facilitate small group and classroom lessons.
• Manage enrollment/registration of new students, including orientation and tours.
• Develop and implement character education programming and parental education.
• Provide staff in-services and conduct home visits.
• Participate in the special education evaluation and Section 504 process.

Requirements

• Must have, or receive prior to the first day of work, appropriate licensure for the position as determined by state law and the District.
• Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI or ProACT) strategies and techniques, or willingness to be trained.
• Background in mental health, PBIS, and RtI is preferred.
• Ability to apply knowledge of the characteristics of elementary-aged children.
• Must be computer literate and able to adapt to and use the district's technology systems.

Schedule

This is a full-time position beginning in the 2026-27 school year. Co-curricular coaching and advisor positions are available.
