About the role
The Equipment Operator / Rigger is an installation technician trained and certified in the safe operation of Aerial Work Platforms, with experience in outdoor rigging and décor installation.
Location: LEGOLAND® CA, Carlsbad, CA (must be local)
Dates: August 26 – September 15 (overnight shifts)
Pay: $37.50/hour
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily inspections of and operate boom lifts
- Suspend materials using safe entertainment rigging methods and recognized industry standards
- Install décor while operating lifts
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Vocational or technical training in welding, engineering, rigging, carpentry, electronics, audio, construction, or electrician fields (preferred)
- 3–5 years of experience in the technical entertainment field, including 1–2 years of rigging and equipment operation
- Valid driver’s license
- OSHA and similar construction safety certifications (helpful)
- ETCP rigger certification (helpful)
Skills
- Basic knowledge of theatrical spaces: fly systems, rigging, rehearsal schedules, facility requirements, knots, and production needs
- Basic carpentry and electrics
- Ability to interpret and create construction drawings
- Solutions-based troubleshooting
- Friendly and proactive personality
- Strong organizational skills (office and on-site)
- Excellent verbal communication and customer service across email, text, phone, and in-person
- Awareness of job-related hazards and risk mitigation
- Expert troubleshooting of technical issues in theatrical/production settings
Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to all-weather conditions (hot/humid, cold/freezing, rain, snow)
- Work in cramped, dirty, or unpleasant quarters
- Regular work at heights over 50 feet
- Exposure to heavy equipment, chemicals, and cutting tools (saws, grinders)
Physical Effort
- Frequent handling of heavy objects (50–75 lbs.) and heavy hand tools
- Prolonged standing, kneeling, bending, and working from the back
- Operation of heavy equipment
