Legislative Editor
About the Role
The South Dakota Legislative Research Council (LRC), the nonpartisan research and support staff to the South Dakota State Legislature, is seeking a permanent, full-time Legislative Editor. This position is based in Pierre, SD, and requires an interest in the legislative process, along with qualities such as being results-oriented, honest, discrete, trustworthy, and articulate.
Responsibilities
- Proof legislative documents during session
- Print and deliver all necessary session paperwork
- Assist in proofing the yearly Session Laws and Codified Laws
- Serve as committee secretary for the Rules Review and Code Commission Committees
- Compile and publish the South Dakota Register
- Proof and update Administrative Rules
- Compile and send LRC style and form rules packets to agencies
- Edit and format all office publications
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or political science is preferred
- Strong writing and proofing skills
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn specialized systems
- Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently, both orally and in writing, with legislators and the public
- Ability to remain objective and nonpartisan, maintain confidentiality, and handle politically sensitive work
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and extended hours during the legislative session
Pay
Salary range: $54,000 to $98,200. Actual starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience.
