About the Role
The Legal Secretary (LS) provides clerical and administrative support to the local office staff, including attorneys. This full-time position contributes to the key functions of the State Public Defender (SPD) and offers the intrinsic reward of public service.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative, clerical, or office support (e.g., greeting visitors, answering phones, mail distribution)
- Work with Microsoft Office Suites and/or Google Suites (e.g., word processing, database entry, email, scheduling, spreadsheets)
- Proofread documents
- Perform detail-oriented tasks (e.g., accurately completing tasks, following instructions, gathering and organizing information)
- Provide litigation support to attorneys in a legal or government setting (e.g., writing motions, e-filing documents, scheduling client meetings)
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience providing administrative, clerical, or office support
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites and/or Google Suites
- Experience proofreading documents (your letter of qualifications will be assessed for proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling)
- Demonstrated attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with the criminal justice system and/or in other legal settings
- Experience providing litigation support to attorneys

Pay
This position is classified under pay schedule/range 02-12 with a starting salary of $24.61 per hour. A one-year probationary period is required.
