About the Role
Under the supervision of the Office Manager (Supervisor I), the Legal Secretary will provide secretarial support in a fast-paced legal office of the San Diego Legal Division. This division includes litigation and house counsel/transactional attorneys, investigators, paralegals, and administrative staff specializing in Tort, Construction Arbitration, Environmental, Contracts, Employment, Real Property, Inverse Condemnation, legal opinions, and administrative matters.
Each Legal Secretary is typically assigned to three or more attorneys but may also provide clerical support to other professional staff. Legal Secretaries are part of a team for back-up purposes and assistance with overflow work.
Pay
- Range A: $4,371.00 - $5,473.00 per month
- Range B: $4,591.00 - $5,748.00 per month
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Requirements
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcript(s)/diploma must be provided for verification. Unofficial, original, or official sealed transcripts will be accepted and may be required upon appointment.
Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency evaluation report indicating the number of units and degree equivalence. Acceptable evaluation agencies include:

- AICE

Qualifications
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Legal Secretary exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil service employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
