About Kirkland & Ellis

Kirkland & Ellis is a leading law firm known for setting the standard for legal excellence. Our culture is built on teamwork, innovation, and a commitment to continuous growth. We handle sophisticated legal challenges with bold ideas and innovative solutions, leveraging the expertise of over 7,000 professionals, including 4,000 attorneys, globally.

What You’ll Do

You are a seasoned eDiscovery leader seeking to shape the future of legal document review at the intersection of litigation strategy and artificial intelligence. You have extensive experience managing complex reviews, investigations, and productions and are looking to apply your expertise at scale while integrating AI into workflows.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop and advance strategies for embedding AI and analytics into standardized review, validation, and production workflows.
  • Define and build key workflows that connect common discovery tasks with adjacent workstreams including early fact investigation, deposition preparation, expert report analysis, and other fact development projects.
  • Champion the integration of firm best practices across review workflows, team collaboration, and matter documentation to reinforce defensibility and consistency.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and help define how a forward-thinking firm integrates emerging technology into the daily practice of law.

Impact

Sitting within the firm's Innovation Program, you will report to the Director of Legal Practice Technology ("LPT") and serve as a senior leader responsible for directing, supporting, and participating in a team of advisors, project managers, and data science specialists.

What You’ll Bring

  • Juris Doctorate required.
  • 15+ years delivering consultative eDiscovery services with a career built around managing complex reviews including investigations, document review, production, and privilege workflows across sophisticated matters.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, iterating, and validating GenAI-assisted document review workflows, with hands-on proficiency with LLM-based review tools, the ability to develop and refine model prompts, apply statistical validation techniques (recall, precision, and elusion sing), and produce defensible AI methodology documentation suitable for disclosure to opposing counsel or regulators.
  • A working understanding of the end-to-end lifecycle of litigations and investigations, including familiarity with tasks attorneys undertake at each phase — such as preparing for depositions and witness interviews, analyzing expert reports, supporting brief drafting, and other fact-intensive workstreams — sufficient to identify opportunities where technology, AI, and structured workflows can add value.
  • Practical expertise in prompt engineering, content engineering, RAG, and AI orchestration frameworks, as well as a technical understanding of knowledge graphs, ontologies, and their application to conceptual knowledge layers, including familiarity with graph database solutions such as Neo4j as applied to legal data classification, entity relationships, and AI-driven document analysis.
  • Experience advancing cross-functional eDiscovery team maturity through standardized documentation, training, technology adoption, combined with exceptional organizational skills, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach that balances independent initiative with alignment to leadership directives.
  • Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to engage clients, attorneys, and firm leadership at all levels with accuracy, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Hands‑on familiarity with general‑purpose legal AI tools (e.g. Harvey, Legora) is preferred, particularly if you’ve evaluated or advised on their use in legal workflows, especially experience distinguishing these tools from purpose‑built eDiscovery review technologies and identifying the right use cases for each.
  • Demonstrated expertise in areas such as advanced project management methodologies, complex data processing, litigation readiness, and/or information governance consulting is preferred.
  • Experience working hands‑on with TAR and analytics tools (e.g., Brainspace, NexLP) is preferred, especially where you’ve applied CAL/CMML or similar techniques for deduplication, email threading, review prioritization, sampling, production QC, privilege identification, or other predictive models.
