About the role

Remote, as-needed freelance work translating, editing, and/or transcribing legal documents from English to Turkish for government and law-enforcement clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate translation, editing, and/or transcription of legal documents and audio files involving law enforcement and legal subject matter from English to Turkish.
  • Edit audio transcriptions that include slang and idioms.
  • Edit legal documents (affidavits, depositions, etc.) while demonstrating a strong command of legal terminology in both English and Turkish.
  • Translate, edit, and/or transcribe following the government client’s style guides and quality standards, using domain-specific terminology.
  • Review and certify other translators’ work quality, as needed.
  • Mirror source-document format in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Advanced proficiency (ILR level 3-plus) in English and Turkish (reading, speaking, listening, writing).
  • Excellent written communication skills in both languages, with a strong command of legal terminology.
  • Experience translating, editing, and/or transcribing legal documents.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office.
  • Familiarity with CAT tools, such as Trados Studio.
  • Ability to adhere to government style guides and quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with U.S. government clients.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement and legal subject matter.
  • Experience certifying other translators’ work.

Pay
