About the role

We're looking for a Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to support IXOPAY's continued global growth by providing practical, business-focused legal guidance across our commercial, privacy, and regulatory initiatives. In this role, you'll partner closely with Sales, Product, Customer Success, Security, and Executive Leadership to negotiate complex commercial agreements, advise on international data privacy and compliance matters, and help navigate the evolving legal landscape within payments and FinTech. You'll combine strong commercial judgment with deep legal expertise to enable the business while managing risk in a fast-paced, international environment. This is an opportunity to play a key role in supporting IXOPAY's expansion while helping shape the legal frameworks that underpin our products, partnerships, and customer relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Support Commercial Growth
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including SaaS subscription agreements, enterprise Master Services Agreements (MSAs), partner agreements, reseller agreements, and other technology contracts.
    • Partner with Sales and Customer Success teams to support complex customer negotiations while balancing commercial objectives with appropriate risk management.
    • Provide practical legal advice that enables efficient deal execution and supports long-term business growth.
  • Lead Privacy and Compliance
    • Serve as a trusted advisor on global data privacy regulations, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other applicable international frameworks.
    • Draft and negotiate Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) and advise Product, Engineering, and Security teams on privacy-by-design principles and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor changes in privacy, technology, and payments regulations, ensuring the business remains informed and prepared.
  • Manage Legal Risk
    • Identify legal and commercial risks across international jurisdictions and develop pragmatic solutions that support business objectives.
    • Provide legal guidance related to payment orchestration, payment processing, PCI DSS, PSD2/PSD3, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
    • Support corporate governance, policy development, and compliance initiatives as needed.
  • Collaborate Across the Business
    • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Security, Customer Experience, Finance, and Executive Leadership to support strategic initiatives.
    • Translate complex legal concepts into practical business guidance for stakeholders across the organization.
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, contract templates, and internal policies that enable the business to scale efficiently.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active membership in good standing with at least one state bar or other relevant legal authority.
  • 5+ years of legal experience, including experience negotiating complex commercial technology agreements.
  • Experience supporting SaaS, cloud software, or enterprise technology businesses.
  • Strong understanding of international commercial contracting and cross-border legal considerations.
  • Experience advising on global privacy regulations, including GDPR and other applicable data protection frameworks.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Combination of law firm and in-house legal experience.
  • Experience within FinTech, payments, payment gateways, payment orchestration, or financial services.
  • Knowledge of PCI DSS, PSD2/PSD3, payment regulations, and financial services compliance.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E, CIPP/US) or similar privacy certification.
  • Experience supporting organizations operating across North America, Europe, LATAM, and APAC.
