Legal Counsel

Reporting to the VP Legal, P&C, this role provides day-to-day legal support to the US business unit in a hybrid setting (minimum twice-weekly in-office presence required).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with claims, operations, and underwriting teams to develop policy form wordings, including competitor market research.
• Draft policy form endorsements that align language to intent while minimizing ambiguity for legacy products.
• Partner with State Filings on form and endorsement submissions and intervene with state regulators on filing inquiries.
• Support comprehensive product and wordings updates, advising on regulatory and litigation trends relevant to product strategies.
• Draft and review insurance services and distribution agreements (e.g., Terms of Business Agreement).
• Address issues related to consumer complaints, financial and market conduct examinations, and regulator information requests.
• Advise business units on insurance regulatory requirements impacting distribution, licensing, marketing, and operations.
• Collaborate across legal, compliance, and other control functions on assigned projects.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of law firm or in-house experience in the property & casualty insurance space, preferably liability insurance.
• Understanding of P&C insurance products, including cyber, D&O, E&O, and general liability.
• Experience with insurance policy wordings, coverage, and regulatory approval processes.
• Commercial contract negotiation experience preferred.
• Strong grasp of insurance contract principles and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• JD required; admittance to at least one state bar.

Pay

Salary range: $120,000–$180,000. Actual salary will reflect role scope, complexity, location, and candidate qualifications.
