Legal & Compliance Officer
About the role
The Legal & Compliance Officer is a key member of the Executive Department, reporting directly to the HR Manager. This role ensures that the organization operates legally, ethically, and in alignment with its mission. Responsibilities include developing compliance programs, reviewing policies, and advising leadership on legal risks.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement legal compliance programs
- Create internal controls and monitor adherence
- Draft and revise company policies
- Audit processes and documents to identify risks
- Evaluate business activities for compliance
- Collaborate with external auditors and HR
- Manage crisis or compliance violations
- Educate staff on regulations and best practices
- Address legal compliance questions
- Stay updated on internal standards and goals
Essential Functions
- Typing speed of 35+ WPM
- Strong oral, written, and text communication skills
- Prepare documentation and compliance reports
- Organize personnel and stakeholder files in CRM
- Implement Executive calendar and Annual Work Plan
- Respond to emails, calls, and assist with recruitment
- Plan and oversee legal/compliance-related events
- Liaise between Executive Leadership and stakeholders
- Supervise onboarding for personnel and volunteers

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Flexible remote work with occasional in-person meetings/events
- Minimal bending, stooping, sitting, kneeling
- May require standing for long periods

- Infrequent lifting up to 50 lbs
- Occasional local travel
Qualifications
- Experience as a Legal Compliance Officer or similar role
- Professional certification (e.g., CCEP) preferred
- Knowledge of legal requirements and controls (e.g., AML)
- Familiarity with industry practices and standards
- Excellent communication and ethical integrity
- Strong attention to detail and business acumen
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
- Degree in law, finance, business administration, or related field
