Legal Assistant / Paralegal Location: Birmingham, AL Job Type: Full-Time Position Overview A law firm in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant / Paralegal to provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to attorneys. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of legal procedures, strong organizational skills, and experience preparing legal documents and managing case files. Key Responsibilities Prepare, draft, format, and file pleadings, discovery responses, correspondence, and other legal documents. Conduct legal and factual research and assist attorneys with case preparation. Review case files and legal documents for accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Maintain organized physical and electronic case files and records. Manage attorney calendars and coordinate hearings, meetings, appointments, and deadlines. Coordinate with courts, opposing counsel, clients, and other parties as directed by attorneys. Communicate with clients to obtain information, documents, and updates under attorney supervision. Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, documents, and case materials. Handle electronic court filings and other administrative legal tasks. Provide general administrative and case-management support to attorneys as needed. Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive legal information. Qualifications Strong understanding of legal concepts, procedures, and terminology. Experience preparing and filing legal documents. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to conduct legal and factual research and review case materials. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities effectively. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, legal practice management software, and electronic filing systems. Ability to work independently while supporting attorneys and collaborating with a legal team. Strong commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics. Associate degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent law firm experience preferred. Prior experience in a law firm or legal environment preferred.
