About the role

The Department of Justice and the United States Attorneys' Offices provide legal support and oversight for grand jury activities and case processing. This position requires specialized knowledge and skills in legal and administrative procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialized technical advice on laws, regulations, and agency requirements related to grand jury activities and case processing.
  • Act as the point of contact for grand jury investigations and procedures, ensuring smooth operations among attorneys, investigative agents, records custodians, and court personnel.
  • Participate in the impanelment process, including giving orientation speeches, answering questions, preparing handouts, and training new foreperson and deputy foreperson.
  • Review bills from financial institutions for records provided pursuant to a grand jury subpoena.
  • Arrange for court reporters to record and transcribe grand jury proceedings and for interpreters as required.
  • Offer a variety of direct legal support services to Assistant United States Attorneys, including examining, preparing, and processing technical legal documents, maintaining files, and searching legal reference files.
  • Manage travel arrangements for assigned cases.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is contingent upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing.
  • Continued employment is subject to a favorable background investigation.
  • Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • Must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Qualifications

  • To be considered "qualified," your specialized experience must be described in your resume.
  • Specialized experience is defined as experience performing duties such as providing information and assistance relating to grand jury investigations/matters, examining, preparing, and processing technical legal documents, and preparing legal actions like indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, and grand jury subpoenas.
