About the role

Ward and Smith, P.A. is a growing full-service law firm with multiple offices throughout the Carolinas. We pride ourselves in providing quality services to our clients through a culture of teamwork and collegiality. We are seeking a Paralegal - Legal Applications Liaison to join our New Bern office. The role is to work with the IT department, practice section management, and other key personnel to evaluate application programs and ensure that they meet the needs of users and business goals; create and maintain the Firm's automated templates; administer, support, and improve case management and docketing systems; and identify workflow improvements within practice sections and propose solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of how legal practice areas function
  • Good working knowledge of legal procedures, data management, and information technology
  • General understanding of Artificial Intelligence and AI models
  • General understanding of business process management and workflow design
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Proficiency in MS Office with expert-level skills in MS Word (required)
  • Proficiency in case management and docketing software
  • Ability to work independently and in teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems or associate's degree in paralegal technology (preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience in a similar role, or 3–5 years as a paralegal/legal practice supporting role with demonstrated expertise in legal software systems
  • 1–2 years of programming experience or experience using a low-code platform (preferred)
  • A strong paralegal or legal assistant with expertise in their legal practice and a proven ability to leverage technology may substitute for some technical requirements; technical training will be required
