Duties

As a Legal Administrative Specialist (GS-12) supporting several high-output sections, primarily the Post-Conviction Special Litigation Section, you provide advanced litigation and case-management support for complex matters by:

  • Organizing and analyzing extensive case materials
  • Managing databases and preparing exhibits
  • Advising attorneys on automation and case-management systems
  • Handling daily filings, mailings, PSR requests, habeas intake, and Compassionate Release document processing
  • Managing weekly Amendment 821 tasks and PCSLS reporting
  • Coordinating BOP and Probation record requests
  • Maintaining tracking spreadsheets
  • Assigning and supporting 2241, 2255, 1651, and FFOA petitions
  • Obtaining records from courts and external districts
  • Correcting respondent captions
  • Assisting attorneys with TROs
  • Ensuring accurate data entry across systems while maintaining ECF access for designated AUSAs
  • Providing comprehensive administrative and technical support throughout all phases of post-conviction litigation and other criminal cases and investigations

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing
  • Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement

Qualifications

GS-12: To qualify for the GS-12, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level as defined below:

Specialized Experience: Experience working in a legal environment providing litigation support services to manage and analyze case materials in support of a trial team. This includes:

  • Tracking and analyzing thousands of items of evidence and millions of data elements
  • Providing technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and system capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation, and presentation
  • Implementing new and enhanced computer applications needed for cases
