Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence
About the role
The School of Computer Science and Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW seeks a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the advancement of research and education in Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence.
- Conduct research in areas such as the integration of machine learning and symbolic reasoning to address complex and structured problems.
- Develop robust and interpretable AI systems that advance the integration of learning and reasoning paradigms.
- Deliver high-quality teaching and support student learning across undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
- Contribute to educational leadership through high-quality teaching, curriculum development, and mentoring students and colleagues.
Requirements
- A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs.
- Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
- Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
Qualifications
- A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.
- Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement.
- Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
- Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
Skills
- Expertise in areas such as machine learning and symbolic reasoning integration, knowledge representation, reasoning under uncertainty, and interpretable AI.
- Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and motivated to contribute to a high-performing academic environment and to build strong relationships across academia and industry.
Benefits
The successful candidate will be offered a salary commensurate with experience, ranging from AUD $127,947 to $150,830 per annum for a Lecturer (Level B) and AUD $155,403 to $178,290 per annum for a Senior Lecturer (Level C), plus 17% superannuation. The position is full-time and offers a 2-year convertible tenure track or continuing appointment.

Senior Lecturer (Level C): AUD $155,403 to $178,290 per annum + 17% superannuation
