About the Opportunity

Join the School of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in a Teaching and Research role. This role will contribute to the School's strategic growth in emerging areas of chemical engineering that support sustainable industries and future economies, while building on the School's internationally recognised research strengths. You will help advance the School's priorities in areas such as sustainable processing, decarbonisation, circularity, digital and AI-enabled chemical engineering, and related future-focused technologies, while delivering high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

About the Role

As a Lecturer, you will contribute to the School's teaching and research mission through high-quality teaching, curriculum development and scholarly activity. You will support students through engaging learning experiences, contribute to the development of future-focused engineering education, and help build research capability in priority areas aligned with the School's strategic direction.

As a Senior Lecturer, you will build on this by developing a nationally and internationally recognised research profile, contributing to interdisciplinary collaboration and industry engagement, and providing leadership in teaching, research and curriculum development. You will also help shape the School's future academic capability and contribute to its long-term growth and success.

About You

You are an academic with expertise in chemical engineering or a closely related field, with the ability to contribute to high-quality teaching and research in areas aligned with the School's strategic priorities. You are committed to advancing your discipline knowledge while delivering engaging learning experiences through well-designed teaching, assessment and feedback, curriculum development and the use of educational technologies. You will bring demonstrated experience in teaching, learning design and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, along with a strong commitment to student success and positive learning outcomes.

Success in this role requires a collaborative and adaptable approach, with the ability to work across disciplines, build relationships with industry and professional networks, and contribute to the School's research excellence and future growth. At Senior Lecturer level, you will also bring evidence of research leadership, a strong and growing track record of high-impact research, experience mentoring colleagues and supervising HDR students to completion, and the ability to contribute to broader academic leadership within the School and Faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the School's teaching and research mission through high-quality teaching, curriculum development and scholarly activity
  • Support students through engaging learning experiences and contribute to the development of future-focused engineering education

  • At Senior Lecturer level: develop a nationally and internationally recognised research profile, contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration and industry engagement, and provide leadership in teaching, research and curriculum development
  • At Senior Lecturer level: help shape the School's future academic capability and contribute to its long-term growth and success

Skills and Experience — Level B (Lecturer)

  • A PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work-integrated learning (desirable)
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership
  • A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training

Skills and Experience — Level C (Senior Lecturer)

  • A PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design using a range of pedagogical approaches, development and delivery of courses and programs, at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level
  • Experience of implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others
  • Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement
  • Demonstrated experience with industry or work-integrated learning
  • Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity diversity and inclusion initiatives
  • Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high calibre students
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training

Pay

  • Lecturer (Level B): AUD $133,065 to $156,864 per annum + 17% superannuation
  • Senior Lecturer (Level C): AUD $161,619 to $185,422 per annum + 17% superannuation
