About the role

The Alvarez College of Business, Department of Accounting, is seeking qualified applicants for vacancies in the upcoming academic year (Fall 2026). This includes Principles of Accounting I (financial accounting), Principles of Accounting II (managerial accounting), intermediate accounting, accounting information systems, cost accounting, federal income taxation, auditing, and other relevant accounting courses in our Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting or Master's in Accountancy program. Each semester's specific hiring needs vary, but we are always seeking to identify a 'bench' of adjunct instructors qualified to teach so that we can add sections and instructors as enrollments exceed capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that critical learning objectives identified by the department chair and course coordinator are met through classroom instruction and instructional materials.
  • Personalize course curriculum to capitalize on subject matter expertise.
  • Incorporate critical thinking and experiential learning into each course.
  • Develop and manage the class syllabus and ensure it meets department and college standards.
  • Create lectures, in-class discussions, and assignments.
  • Assess grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
  • Assist/mentor students as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in the teaching discipline or a Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
  • Five years of teaching and/or work experience in one or more of the areas of specialization, including accounting, tax, and audit.
  • The ability to teach locally in San Antonio on the main campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio.
  • The ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • A professional certification includes, but is not limited to, a Certified Public Accountant license, Certified Management Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Fraud Examiner, and Enrolled Agent.
  • A Doctoral degree in accounting, tax or a related field.
