Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Philosophy
About the role
The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at North Carolina State University invites applications for potential short-term teaching positions in Philosophy during the 2026-27 academic year. These positions may involve teaching one or more courses for either a single semester or the full academic year, depending on departmental needs. Courses that may require instructors include Introduction to Philosophy, Contemporary Moral Issues, Issues in Business Ethics, Data Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, Logic, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Science, and other PHI courses listed in the NC State course catalog. Teaching assignments may be for in-person or online distance education courses; however, local residency is required for both.
Responsibilities
- Teach one or more courses in Philosophy, including but not limited to Introduction to Philosophy, Contemporary Moral Issues, Issues in Business Ethics, Data Ethics, Biomedical Ethics, Logic, Metaphysics, Epistemology, Philosophy of Science, and other PHI courses listed in the NC State course catalog.
- Teach in-person or online distance education courses.
- Teach one or more courses for either a single semester or the full academic year, depending on departmental needs.
- Teach courses that align with the department's curriculum goals and student learning outcomes.
Qualifications
- Lecturer: Master’s Degree in Philosophy or related field, an equivalent degree or equivalent professional experience is required. If teaching graduate level courses, a Doctor’s Degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience is required.
- Assistant Teaching Professor: Doctor’s Degree in Philosophy or related field, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience is required.
- Strong commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Excellent communication skills.
