Lecturer in Materials Science and Engineering (Faculty Wage)

Part-time Wage Lecturer position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) at the University of Virginia. The successful candidate will collaborate with DMSE faculty to develop and teach a new course, Processing of Polymeric Materials, as a Special Topics elective for undergraduate students during the Spring 2027 semester. The appointment is expected to begin in Fall 2026 (September 2026).

About the role

Total compensation for the appointment is $7,000.

Responsibilities

• Develop, prepare, and distribute course materials
• Deliver classroom instruction and maintain scheduled contact hours
• Hold office hours and meet with students as scheduled
• Evaluate student performance through grading and assessment
• Provide student advising and mentoring
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a closely related field
• Demonstrated teaching experience and/or relevant expertise in the related subject area
