Lecturer in Food and Culinary Science

Part-time, 9-month lectureship in food and culinary science within the Department of Food Science and Nutrition. This annually renewable position spans the academic year, with contract dates from August 31, 2026, to May 30, 2027. The appointment may vary from 50% to 80% of a full-time position and is initially for one year, with potential continuation based on performance and departmental needs.

About the role

The appointee will develop and conduct laboratory and classroom activities that foster mastery of culinary skills and understanding of food science principles. Responsibilities include:

• Developing and implementing methods to evaluate student competency in creating and preparing safe, acceptable foods.
• Supporting students in designing and executing experimental plans in culinary and food science.
• Creating laboratory and classroom activities that promote a welcoming climate for individuals from diverse cultures.
• Designing course activities that enable proficiency in preparing foods from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• MS in food science, culinary science, nutrition, or a closely related field.
• Professional experience in the food service industry or a similar field.
• ServSafe certification.
• Strong culinary skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of ability to work independently and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
• Evidence of effective classroom and laboratory teaching.
• Experience in undergraduate student mentorship.

Pay

Annual pay range: $65,000 to $77,000, depending on education, qualifications, and experience. The initial pay may not reach the maximum of the range and will be based on individual credentials and experience.
