Lecturer in Choral Music (Concert Choir)

About the role

The Department of Music in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a part-time Lecturer in Choral Music to conduct the UCI Concert Choir.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and rehearse the UCI Concert Choir and prepare the ensemble for public performances, including collaborative performances with the UCI Chamber Singers.
• Cook up closely with the Director of Choral Activities on repertoire selection, artistic planning, and collaborative performances.
• Develop and maintain course materials, including syllabi, learning objectives, grading criteria, and methods for assessing student learning.
• Deliver engaging rehearsals and instruction while maintaining regular office hours, timely communication with students, and appropriate assessment of student progress.
• Incorporate into the course design opportunities for students who are selected by the Director of Choral Activities to serve in roles as section leaders and student conductors, and provide them with guidance that supports their musical and leadership development.
• Encourage student participation in the artistic and educational opportunities offered through the choral area, including performances, outreach initiatives, festivals, tours, and other collaborative activities, as appropriate.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment while collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, and students throughout the Department of Music and the Claire Trevor School of the Arts.

Qualifications

• Master of Music in Choral Conducting.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of successful collegiate, professional, or advanced secondary choral conducting experience, with demonstrated excellence in ensemble leadership and college-level teaching.
• Proven ability to teach, mentor, and inspire students from diverse educational, cultural, social, and musical backgrounds.
• Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students while supporting recruitment, advising, retention, and the continued growth of the Department of Music.
• Commitment to teaching excellence, inclusive instructional practices, and student success.
