About the Program

The B.A. in Music offers a student-centered educational experience grounded in individualized attention, close faculty mentorship, and high expectations for artistic and academic growth. The program provides comprehensive training in musicianship, private instruction, recital repertory, and diverse ensemble experiences. Students develop creative, collaborative, critical, and professional skills to pursue careers in music and the arts. About the Role

The Music Program is seeking an instructor to teach coursework in digital audio recording, editing, and production. The successful candidate will provide hands-on instruction in current industry-standard applications and technologies, including analog and digital audio recording systems, recording workflows, digital audio editing and effects, and synchronized sound and audio production for visual media. The instructor will support students in developing both technical knowledge and practical skills.

The ability to provide private instruction in one or more instruments and/or voice is highly desirable. Candidates with experience teaching applied music lessons may have opportunities to contribute additional instruction based on program needs, student demand, and expertise.

Responsibilities

• Teach one or more Music course sections in face-to-face, synchronous online, and/or asynchronous online modalities as scheduled.
• Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students.
• Design syllabi, curriculum, and interactive activities to engage students and reinforce learning.
• Prepare and deliver course materials, evaluate student learning, and assign grades.
• Update course materials periodically and monitor course evaluations to make improvements.
• Respond to student needs and questions, fostering an inclusive and motivating environment.
• Apply technology (e.g., Canvas) and leverage resources (e.g., guest speakers) to enhance the curriculum.
• Handle administrative tasks, including grade submission and adherence to deadlines.

Requirements

• B.A. in Music, Sound Design, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Significant professional experience in a relevant field.
• Availability to teach assigned days, times, and modalities (face-to-face or online).
• Ability to engage with a broad student population and provide mentorship to support student success.

Qualifications

• M.A., Ph.D., or other terminal degree in a closely related field (preferred).
• Experience teaching with Canvas (preferred).
• Demonstrated culturally-relevant, -responsive, and -sustaining pedagogy and/or artistic practices (preferred).

Pay

California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) ranges:

• Range 2: $5,507–$6,677 per month
• Range 3: $6,221–$13,224 per month
• Range 4: $6,825–$14,523 per month
• Range 5: $8,593–$15,211 per month

Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. Full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments per semester.
