About the Role

The College of Health Science and Public Health invites applications for a Lecturer of Health & Physical Education in the Department of Wellness and Movement Sciences (WAMS). The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in health and physical education, advise undergraduate students, and contribute to departmental needs. Eastern's WAMS faculty bring knowledge and experience in teaching, research, and service to their programs. We seek a colleague who complements our existing faculty and can develop and maintain strong community relationships.

The department offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science, Health and Physical Education, Lifestyle Medicine, and Recreation Management, as well as Master of Science degrees in Athletic Training and Exercise Science. All faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and engage in effective teaching.

Responsibilities

• Teach 45 credits per academic year, primarily at EWU's main campus in Cheney, WA, including courses that fulfill department and program needs.
• Advise undergraduate health and physical education students.
• Engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning outcomes.
• Fulfill additional teaching-related responsibilities as outlined in the faculty CBA, including:
  • Meeting all scheduled classes.
  • Planning, organizing, and informing students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations, and methods of evaluation.
  • Scheduling and attending office hours.
  • Submitting grades according to established deadlines.
  • Advising declared majors on department, college, and university requirements and career opportunities.
• Perform administrative duties as negotiated and needed to meet departmental business needs.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Health and Physical Education or a related field, or a BAE in Health and Physical Education with a Master's in Education.
• Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach supportive of universal access for students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching college courses.
• Evidence of advising undergraduate and/or graduate students in academic coursework, a professional program, or an internship.
• Professional certification(s) and/or licensure(s) relevant to the field.
• Experience with K-12 health and physical education teaching.

Pay

Expected salary upon hire: $63,889.
