Lecturer: Global Business & Transportation SUNY Maritime College

About the role

The Global Business & Transportation Department (GBAT) at SUNY Maritime College seeks a non-tenure track Lecturer with expertise in maritime operations, the maritime industry, and college-level teaching. This is a 10-month academic-year appointment requiring a strong commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

• Teach a minimum of 4 three-credit courses per semester in maritime operations, maritime business, logistics, and general business at both undergraduate and graduate levels, using face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats.
• Participate in curriculum and course development, assessment activities, and college-wide faculty governance by serving on committees.
• Serve as an Academic Advisor to multiple students.
• Contribute as a member of Global Business and Transportation Department work-groups and committees.

Requirements

• A minimum of 20 years of experience in the maritime industry, including merchant mariner-level operations, supervision/management of marine operations, personnel management, budgeting, and regulatory management (safety, security, and environmental protection).
• A U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner License as a Chief Mate or Master (Active or in-Continuity status), with at least 10 years of sailing (mariner) experience.
• A minimum of 10 years (part-time or full-time) of college-level teaching experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels in marine operations, transportation/logistics management, or maritime business.
• An undergraduate degree plus a Master’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
  • Marine Operations
  • Marine Transportation
  • Maritime Business
  • Transportation and/or Logistics Management
  • International Studies
  • International Trade
• Eligibility to teach in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• A U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Engineering license.
• Past participation on industry and/or government committees and/or work-groups.
• Writing and/or publication of maritime-related studies, reports, opinion papers, or articles.

Pay

The anticipated salary range is $69,000 to $78,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
