About the role

Eastern Washington University and the College of Health Science and Public Health invite applications for a Lecturer position in the Department of Dental Hygiene, beginning August 17, 2026. The department, housed in a state-of-the-art facility at EWU’s Spokane Campus, offers the only Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene in Washington. The successful candidate will join a collaborative faculty committed to equity, inclusion, and excellence in teaching, research, and community service. The primary teaching area for this position is public health in the graduate program.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate dental hygiene courses in didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.
• Develop and deliver evidence-based, engaging instructional materials using effective teaching practices.
• Evaluate student performance using fair and consistent assessment methods; maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, clinical competencies, and course outcomes.
• Provide academic advising and mentoring to students.
• Support students in achieving clinical competencies and professional behaviors consistent with program expectations.
• Supervise students providing patient care in clinical settings.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards, OSHA, HIPAA, and clinic safety protocols.
• Evaluate clinical performance using established competency assessments.
• Teach and supervise student internships in community-based organizations.
• Actively participate in assessment of student learning.
• Maintain an ongoing research program and contribute service to the university, college, and department (required for tenure-track appointments).

Requirements

• Master’s of Science in Dental Hygiene or related field.
• Washington State Dental Hygiene licensure with restorative endorsement or Dental (dentist) licensure, or ability to obtain by August 17, 2026.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent certification, including hands-on CPR for adults, children, and infants; AED use; and airway management using a bag-valve-mask.
• Minimum of two years clinical experience within the past five years (clinical practice or clinical faculty).
• Experience with technology such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Experience in course design and curriculum development.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and belonging for students of all backgrounds.
• Excellent communication and networking skills.
• Experience evaluating student learning, managing course activities, and mentoring students.
• Ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach supportive of universal access for students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctorate or terminal degree in the field.
• Knowledge of the accreditation process.
• Experience in restorative dentistry.
• Experience teaching hybrid courses.
• Demonstrated potential for scholarship.

Pay

Expected salary upon hire: $73,234.
