Lecturer, Critical Writing Program
About the role
The University of Pennsylvania's Critical Writing Program in the Marks Family Center for Excellence in Writing invites applications for one or more full-time, non-tenure-track positions as Lecturer.
Responsibilities
- Teach small, discipline-themed, and shared-curriculum writing seminars to Penn undergraduates.
- Respond to student work, assess norms, and participate in training sessions and faculty meetings.
- Attend online training sessions during the summer and in-person training from August 10–21, 2026.
Requirements
- Terminal degree required, Ph.D. preferred.
- Strong interest in the teaching of writing.
- Extensive training and mentorship will be provided.
Qualifications
- Applicants with credentials in Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, the Sciences, Engineering, or Business are especially welcome and strongly encouraged.
Skills
- Ability to engage in ongoing professional development in teaching, rhetoric, and/or writing studies.
Benefits
- Initial appointment(s) for academic year 2026-27 with potential for renewal.
- Teaching load of six courses per year on topics determined in consultation with the program’s administration.

Application Instructions
Applicants should submit a letter broadly outlining their qualifications and interest, their current CV or résumé, evidence of their accomplishments as a writer or scholar (writing sample), a proposed course description, and if applicable, evidence of their accomplishments as a teacher (teaching evaluations strongly encouraged, awards, etc.). Names and contact information for three referees should also be included. Referees for finalists will be contacted with instructions for submitting letters of recommendation.
