The Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture provides hands-on, student-centered education preparing graduates for leadership in agriculture, food systems, and related industries. The college offers programs in plant science, animal science, agribusiness, food science, apparel merchandising and management, and hospitality management. About the Department

The Department of Plant Science is a hands-on, welcoming community focused on preparing students for careers in agriculture, horticulture, and environmental stewardship. Students engage in real-world experiences through research projects, greenhouse and fieldwork, and industry connections. Faculty support student success and encourage participation in competitive teams covering areas such as plant production, sustainable agriculture, landscape management, pest management, and urban horticulture. The department emphasizes creativity, sustainability, and collaboration to build practical skills and positively impact food systems and the environment.

About the Role

The Temporary Faculty Pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may be required to begin teaching on short notice. The fall term runs from late August to mid-December, and the spring term from mid-January to mid-May. Opportunities for summer teaching may also be available.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum.
• Serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
• Teach day, evening, and/or weekend courses as assigned.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in agriculture, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Crop Science, Agroecology, Forestry, Controlled Environment Agriculture, Entomology, Horticulture, or a related discipline relevant to the curriculum.
• Relevant professional work experience in agriculture, plant science, horticulture, environmental science, or a closely related field may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Agriculture, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Crop Science, Agroecology, Forestry, Controlled Environment Agriculture, Entomology, Horticulture, or a related discipline.
• Prior teaching experience at the college or university level, with evidence of strong teaching.

Pay

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank, with an anticipated hiring range not to exceed $6,221 per month (as of July 2024). Salaries are prorated based on units worked and paid in six monthly payments per semester. The classification salary ranges are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
• Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per month
