About the College

The College of Environmental Design (ENV) connects people, places, and the environments in which we live, work, and play. A leader in design excellence, ENV uses the creative economy and cultural capital of Southern California to educate and train future designers to shape the future of the built and natural environments with resiliency, inclusivity, and justice. ENV offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, visual communication design, art history, and a graduate degree in regenerative studies.

About the Department

The Department of Architecture at Cal Poly Pomona is highly collegial and collaborative, with focused and motivated students. The department offers a Bachelor of Architecture, a Master of Architecture, and a Master of Interior Architecture. The Master of Interior Architecture is an online professional degree (M. INT. ARCH.) accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). The program prepares individuals with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree to enter the field of interior design, incorporating the highest standards of professional practice.

About the Role

The Temporary Faculty Pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during summer sessions may also be available.

We welcome applications from individuals who are experienced and student-centered to teach in the following subject areas:

  • Building Codes, Interior Detailing, and Building Systems
  • Sustainable Strategies in Interior Architecture
  • Foundational Interior Architectural Design Studio
  • Interior Architectural Practice

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum.
  • Serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
  • Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Interior Architecture or a Master’s degree in a related discipline relevant to the curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Interior Design/Interior Architecture.
  • NCIDQ Certification (Council for Interior Design Qualification) or other certification in interior design.
  • Professional experience in practice.
  • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching.

Pay

Compensation will be based on the applicable CSU Salary Schedule for CFA Unit 3, Classification 2322, and will be commensurate with the assigned workload and enrollment.

Benefits

Positions hired exclusively to teach in the self-support MIA program are not eligible for benefits.

Education Code 89521 requires applicants to disclose any final administrative or judicial decision determining they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years after meeting minimum qualifications and before an offer of employment is extended. Applicants reaching the final stages must also sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.
