Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit
The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (DAMES) is an academic unit in the College of Arts & Sciences. Our mission is to serve the undergraduate populations by offering majors and minors in a range of Asian and Middle Eastern languages and cultures. We also offer an MA program with two tracks: Interdisciplinary Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and Chinese Studies. In addition, our faculty conduct research in the field of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and contribute to the College, the University, and the state through service and leadership.
Position Summary
Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester, including elementary and intermediate levels of Hindi-Urdu. Other responsibilities include holding office hours and organizing cultural enrichment activities.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- Master’s degree, preferably in Hindi or Urdu language pedagogy or a related field.
- Native or near-native proficiency in Hindi and/or Urdu and English is required.
- Experience teaching Hindi and/or Urdu as a second language (preferably at the university level in the U.S.), and knowledge of current best practices and technologies, is required.
- Facility with both the Devanagari (Hindi) and Nastaliq (Urdu) writing systems is preferred.
