The Department of Art, Media, and Design at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach AMD 380-10: Graphic Design 2 – Intermediate Visual Communication Studio.
About the role
This is an intermediate studio course that meets on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 11:50 a.m. Course Description The course builds upon foundational principles of visual communication and introduces students to more structured conceptual thinking, typographic systems, and multi-platform design applications. Students engage in research-driven design processes, iterative development, critique, and craft-based production while strengthening professional workflows and presentation skills. Emphasis is placed on developing cohesive visual systems across formats, understanding audience engagement, and refining design decisions for clarity, usability, and meaning. The course prepares students for upper-division studio work through increased rigor in methodology, production standards, and conceptual development.

Requirements
A master's degree in graphic design or closely related field
Current portfolio of graphic design or related work
Teaching experience at the college level or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to teach foundational-to-intermediate graphic design concepts, including typography (grid system), editorial design, and identity systems
- Commitment to inclusive pedagogy and experience working with diverse student populations
- Evidence of professional design practice and/or interdisciplinary visual communication work
- Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
Salary
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
