Leaves Coordinator, Bureau of Human Resources and Labor Relations

About the role

The Bureau of Human Resources and Labor Relations, Hiring Unit is seeking a detailed, customer service-oriented individual with exceptional written and verbal communication skills to function as their Leaves Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of leaves within the agency including Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Paid Parental Leave (PPL), Paid Family Leave (PFL), and others.

  • Calculate all leaves to determine eligibility, leave type, commencement of leave, and leave balances.

  • Prepare letters for Director's review/signature for all approved leave requests.

  • Provide employees' guidance on all forms of leave of absences, including answering questions via phone, email, and in person.

  • Cook with a third-party insurance carrier for City of NY Paid Family Leave (PFL) requests with a timely notification schedule.

  • Update computerized leave reports.

  • Aid in follow-up on all expired leave of absence within designated Human Resources Liaisons (DHRL) and leave liaisons within the Agency.

  • Aid in work assignments within the Leaves and Benefits, including but not limited to Workers Compensation, Verification, Benefits, and etc.

Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.

  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above.

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
