About the role

The Nutley Public Schools Music Program strives to provide a comprehensive music education experience at the elementary level. Students begin music instruction in kindergarten and continue their music education through the fifth grade. The ideal candidate for this position will be an expert in general music pedagogy, have strong piano skills and experience with Orff and Kodaly instruction as well as experience in teaching choir. Band and/or string instruction experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Strong piano skills and proficiency necessary

• Develops and administers school music curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for music instruction
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and learning in music techniques and expression, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
