Leave of Absence Specialist I
About the role
This role involves supporting the administration of employee leaves in accordance with federal, state, and company policies. It includes working directly with employees throughout the leave process, providing information and assistance, and ensuring accurate recordkeeping. The position also supports internal HR workflows and requires regular collaboration with the LOA team, HR Business Partners, and People Relations Partners to ensure consistency and compliance across leave cases.
Responsibilities
- Assist with intake and tracking of employee leave of absence requests (e.g., FMLA, ADA, parental leave, short-term disability).
- Communicate with employees regarding documentation requirements, timelines, and leave status updates.
- Maintain confidential and accurate leave records in HR systems.
- Coordinate with internal teams (Payroll, Benefits, HRBPs) to ensure proper processing and benefit continuation during leave.
- Monitor leave timelines and support timely follow-up on certifications, return-to-work forms, and extensions.
- Respond to basic inquiries from employees and managers regarding leave policies and procedures.
- Support compliance efforts by learning applicable leave laws and company policies.
- Assist with generating reports related to LOA metrics and trends.
Requirements
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 0–2 years of experience in HR, benefits, or administrative support (leave experience a plus, but not required).
- Familiarity with FMLA, ADA, and other leave policies is a plus (training will be provided).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working with HRIS systems, spreadsheets, and basic reporting tools.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Schedule
This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements. You must be available five days per week during designated work hours. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
- Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.
Pay
The base pay range for this position is $49,200 - $70,300/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits.
