Learning2 Educator (Part-Time)
Part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Education Programs Manager.
About the role
Join a team of talented STEM Instructors at EIS. We are looking for someone passionate about providing high-quality STEM experiences for all students and promoting equal opportunity for underrepresented and underserved students. A Learning2 Instructor will teach a science and literacy program at various elementary schools within the Lincoln Cluster. Lessons include read-alouds, word work, and hands-on activities such as making a battery, demonstrating balanced and unbalanced forces, and using precision scales.
Classes are taught at neighboring elementary schools. The position requires transporting materials between schools and EIS, as well as communicating with teachers about the program.
Responsibilities
- Professionally represent the organization
- Demonstrate flexibility and strong communication skills to adapt to unexpected school events
- Teach early elementary students with a focus on hands-on learning
- Manage a classroom of young children using a "warm-strict" approach
- Learn and implement best practices in science and literacy instruction
- Engage with science concepts or leverage a background in science
- Transport materials (up to 20 lbs) using a personal vehicle
Requirements
- Must have or be pursuing a B.A./B.S. in a STEM discipline (Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, Engineering, Computer Sciences, Math, etc.), Education, or a related field
- Must enjoy working with children ages 7–14
- Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate good judgment and critical thinking skills
- Punctual, reliable, and eligible to work in the United States
- Teaching experience in a classroom, afterschool, science center, or other informal education setting is preferred
- Professional demeanor and work ethic
- Ability to implement STEM lesson plans and work independently or as part of a team
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
- Pass a background check
Pay
$22/hour
Schedule
August 24 – May 14, 10–20 hours per week. Hours vary by day, typically between 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
