Learning Support Specialist II - Writing Center
About the role
The Learning Support Specialist 2 (LSS2) performs the duties of a professional tutor, working with students, either one-on-one or in small groups, to help them attain a deeper and more substantial command of the assigned subject matter.
Responsibilities
- Tutor in-person and communicate with the department regarding individual student progress and needs.
- Generate reports from tutoring software and send them to his/her supervisor.
- Communicate with students at appointed times.
- Maintain documentation of all tutoring sessions and generate department reports for tutoring.
- Provide course instructor(s) with communication/information that can be used to facilitate student learning of course content.
- Use advanced features of the College’s tutoring software.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of the course material and multiple instructional methodologies to accommodate various student learning styles.
- Attend tutor training sessions and provide support to Academic Support Leads, LSS, LSS1, Peer Tutors & Supplemental Instructional Leaders.
- Assist with technical support of tutoring software and report issues.
Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in English or a related field, two (2) or more years of teaching and/or tutoring of writing experience in a higher education environment, and a State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work sites.
Qualifications
Must have a strong command of the subject matter and be able to communicate it effectively to students using a variety of methods and teaching tools.
Skills
Advanced use and implementation of the College’s tutoring software.
