About the role

The Learning Environment Specialist (LES) works collaboratively with the inside and outside sales teams to represent a comprehensive array of products and services utilized to create a 21st Century Learning Environment. The role requires deep knowledge of School Specialty’s offerings, including furniture, equipment, educational technology, and proprietary safety and security products. A critical element is assessing customer needs and providing solutions that drive sales growth while strengthening customer relationships. The role is expected to build collaboration within Team Selling and meet or exceed sales forecasts.

This is a work-from-home role within a designated territory.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the dynamics and trends within the education market, specifically as they relate to learning environments, to promote School Specialty’s value proposition.
  • Manage sales opportunities from identification through post-sale support by understanding customer needs, product insights, and learning environment layout and design.
  • Establish and build relationships with key school districts to develop account strategies for growth and execute sales plans.
  • Collaborate within School Specialty’s team sell model to achieve sales objectives using the full breadth of the learning environment product offering.
  • Maximize effectiveness through tools and resources (Stratum & OneForce/Salesforce.com) to drive business and address white space opportunities.
  • Establish and moderate regular team discussions around bonds and funding sources, with a minimum expectation of one meeting per month per territory.
  • Review key funding updates and customer stakeholder information, and develop bond/funding strategies within the team sell model.
  • Ensure proper and timely updates in OneForce for each bond or funding opportunity to maintain sales stage accuracy.
  • Manage a travel & entertainment budget and other business expenses (e.g., samples, trade shows, conferences) in alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Complete ongoing proficiency and professional development training, including time spent in fulfillment centers and other departments.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce.com).
  • Strong sales process skills: time management, territory management, financial management, and probing skills.
  • Product knowledge in furniture, equipment, and educational technology.
  • Ability to build networks, including via social media.
  • 2-5 years of successful outside sales experience; K-12 education market experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in furniture and equipment project management/sales or a related field.
  • Acceptable driving record, valid driver’s license, and insurance in a program-compliant automobile.
  • 4-year college degree (Business, Marketing, or Education preferred) or equivalent work experience.

Pay

Annual salary range of $75K–$90K with a quarterly sales incentive plan (60/40 commission split).
