Learning & Development Specialist
Component Repair Technologies, Inc. (CRT) began as a locally family-owned business in Mentor, OH in 1985 and has grown into a global leader (500+ employees) in the aerospace MRO sector. Specializing in the repair and overhaul of turbine engine components, CRT serves the world’s largest airlines and jet engine manufacturers. In 2025, CRT became a Safran Aircraft Engines company, operating as a Center of Excellence for the repair of large jet engine parts in the Americas. Safran Aircraft Engines designs, produces, and supports aircraft engines, contributing to safer, more sustainable air transport.
About the role
This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating learning programs and initiatives to foster employee development and enhance organizational performance. The Learning and Development Specialist partners closely with production leaders and department managers to ensure employees receive the training, resources, and support needed to perform successfully and safely in their roles. The role involves developing training content, monitoring program effectiveness through qualitative and quantitative measures, and supporting employee development and career progression. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure full compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Design and deliver training programs (onboarding, on-the-job, leadership development, and technical skills) based on organizational objectives.
- Create, update, and maintain training materials, job aids, educational resources, presentations, and course content for instructor-led, hands-on, and computer-based learning environments.
- Partner with department managers and supervisors to identify training needs and develop structured training plans aligned with departmental goals.
- Conduct training needs assessments and skills gap analyses to identify opportunities for workforce development and performance improvement.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, surveys, and other assessment tools and make recommendations for curriculum improvement.
- Maintain training records and ensure compliance with company, customer, regulatory, and audit requirements, including FAA Part 145 and other applicable industry standards.
- Monitor industry trends and best practices in learning and development to enhance organizational learning initiatives.
- Support employee development, career progression, and succession planning initiatives by providing guidance, resources, and visibility to internal development opportunities.
- Administer and maintain the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring accurate tracking of training compliance, employee development, and training-related data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Learning and Development, Human Resources, Organizational Management, or a related field; or a minimum of two years of experience in a related role within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Two to three years of experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating training and professional development programs for young adults and adult learners or relevant experience in a training or educational environment.
- Demonstrated experience administering and maintaining a Learning Management System (LMS).
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Previous experience as a mentor, coach, instructor, or trainer.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension) to effectively communicate with employees.
- Proficiency with software programs commonly used in training and development, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and content authoring tools such as Articulate or similar platforms.
- Experience in technical writing and editing documents that support employee training and production operations.
Work Environment
- Safety-sensitive environment: the successful candidate will be required to follow general shop safety procedures, including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
- Work standing and/or sitting during a normal shift. May be required to occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
