Learning & Development Instructional Designer
About This Opportunity
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging learning experiences that support business performance across mortgage operations, sales, and compliance functions. This role partners closely with business leaders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and compliance teams to translate complex mortgage concepts into effective, scalable training programs.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop end-to-end learning solutions (eLearning, instructor-led, virtual, and blended programs)
Translate complex topics such as loan products, underwriting guidelines, compliance regulations (FHA, VA, ECOA, HMDA) into clear, engaging content
Apply adult learning principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM)
Create job aids, facilitator guides, participant materials, and knowledge checks
Mortgage-Specific Training: Develop training for roles such as Account Executives, Underwriters, Operations and Support teams
Ensure training aligns with regulatory requirements and internal policies
Incorporate updates related to federal/state compliance changes and investor guidelines
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with SMEs, business leaders, compliance, and HR to identify training needs
Conduct needs analyses and performance gap assessments
Manage stakeholder expectations and project timelines
Learning Technology & Delivery
Utilize LMS platforms to assign, track, and report on training completion
Develop interactive eLearning using tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, or Adobe Captivate
Support live and virtual training sessions as needed
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
Evaluate training effectiveness using KPIs, learner feedback, and performance data
Continuously improve content based on regulatory updates, business needs, and learner outcomes
Maintain content accuracy and version control
Location and Schedule
This is a full-time, office-based position in a modern, cozy environment in our Troy, MI HQ. Our standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, HR, or related field
3–5+ years of instructional design experience
Experience developing training in a regulated environment (financial services, mortgage, banking, etc.)
Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools (Articulate preferred)
Strong understanding of adult learning principles
Preferred Experience
In the mortgage industry or financial services
Familiarity with mortgage lifecycle (origination → underwriting → closing)
Knowledge of compliance regulations (e.g., ECOA, HMDA, RESPA, TRID)
Experience with LMS platforms (Cornerstone, Workday, etc.)
Experience building compliance training
